Aogami is a character in Shin Megami Tensei V. Created by Bethel to battle the forces of Chaos, he disappeared after the appearance of Lucifer until the protagonist was transported into Da'at and was threatened by demons. Reawakened, he offered his power to the young man and the two fused into the form of a Nahobino.
Aogami is a combat-type Proto-fiend constructed by Bethel Japan to replenish their forces after the significant losses they faced from Armageddon. His appearance is similar to Hayao Koshimizu, with the main difference being his blue hair and taller height. He wears a fully body skin suit made of white metal with lines of red energy flowing through it, and has a red symbol on his chest resembling the letter S or a magatama.
Aogami is very reserved and acts in an almost robotic manner, faithfully serving Bethel without objection and seeking to protect humanity and the protagonist. However, as he spends more time with the protagonist, he becomes more introspective, questioning his role and displaying affection for the protagonist beyond his programming to protect him. He also shows remorse over the loss of human life, suggesting his actions are driven by compassion rather than just following his programming.
In reality, he contains the soul of Susano-o, who fell in battle during Armageddon and was reconstructed by Koshimizu.
Aogami is the only remaining Proto-fiend created for BethelJapan by Hayao Koshimizu[1], with all others having been destroyed in the conflict with the forces of Chaos. 18 years prior to the events of the game, Aogami served under Abdiel and observed Lucifer's deceleration of victory against the Creator. Once Lucifer disappeared, Aogami was immediately taken offline and vanished under mysterious circumstances. He would only reactivate when the protagonist entered Da'at and was attacked by Daemons. Due to his diminished power, he fused with the protagonist to become a Nahobino so that they could survive. Unlike most Nahobino where the demon is in control of their Nahobino form, the Nahobino's human Knowledge took control of their new form. As a result, Aogami provides support to the Nahobino.
In truth he is the god Susano-o in the body of a Proto-fiend, having fallen during Armageddon and rebuilt by Tsukuyomi to wield the full power of the Amatsukami gods.[2][3][4]
It is revealed that Lucifer is responsible for Aogami's disappearance and later his reappearance before the protagonist in his plot to reunite Knowledge with Eternal Life.[5]
Trivia
It is hinted that the character Aogami is of the Aogami Type-0 designation, the most powerful of the combat type Proto-fiends.[citation needed]
Nomenclature
The name is a compound of the Japanese 青ao ("blue") + 神kami ("Shinto spirit; deity"). The kami changes to gami as an instance of rendaku.
