Origin
A pishacha (Sanskrit: पिशाच, romanized piśāca) is a flesh-eating, corpse-like spirit in Hinduism and Buddhism. In Sino-Japanese sutras, it is transcribed as 畢舎遮 Hisshasha or 毘舎遮 Bishasha. Buddhism generally recognizes pishachas as a kind of preta. The San Fadu Lun[a] classifies pishachas as being a being reborn as a hungry ghost. Along with ghandarvas, pishachas are led by Jikokuten.[1]
