The Old Man in Kichijoji is a character in Shin Megami Tensei.

A mysterious elderly man who advocates for neutrality and balance, appearing first in Inokashira Park in Kichijoji, and then later in Ginza.

When the Hero heads to Inokashira Park after his second dream, an old man is found waiting for him at the entrance leading into the park. Believing the Hero is capable of weilding great power, he warns him that the balance of the world, between the forces of Law and Chaos, are on the verge of collapse, and that choosing either path will lead to the same outcome. The old man then gives him a vision in which he is accompanied by his companions from his dreams where they must fight an opponent named Douman. As the Hero's party is guaranteed to lose at this point in time, the old man prematurely ends the vision and leaves the Hero, promising they will meet again should fate will it.
The old man can later be found again on the bottom floor of Ginza, where he will be blocking a passageway, and depending on the Hero's alignment, will address the Hero differently. If the Hero is Law or Chaos-aligned, he will disapprove of his actions and criticize him. If the Hero is Neutral-aligned however, he will say that the Hero has matured and tells him not to lose sight of the way he currently feels.

Later, should the Hero be on the Neutral route, he will allow his party to access the passageway he was blocking, which leads to the Basilica. From there he will appear in the Basilica's central area and inform the Hero of the ongoing struggle between the Lawful and Chaotic armies to take control of it, and adds that as long as either side remains standing, the conflict will never end. He then sends the Hero off to vanquish the leaders of each faction residing at the Basilica's top and bottom floors.
