Aniel is an angel working with the Messian Church and is one of the angels overseeing the Basilica's construction.[1] In order to halt the Basilica's completion, Echidna requests the Hero to slay him. If the Hero is chaos-aligned when he meets Law Hero in Shinagawa, or if he refuses Law Hero's request to slay Echidna, Aniel intervenes and attacks the Hero, seeing that he will not be persuaded to their side. If the Hero does slay Echidna and returns to Law Hero, Aniel will appear, pleased with the Hero, and ask him to continue supporting the Messians in their efforts to create the Millennium Kingdom. If the Hero agrees, Aniel connects a bridge from the Shinagawa to the Basilica for him, though if the Hero refuses, he will angrily attack him only to be defeated.
