The Protagonist, nicknamed Newbie, is a playable character in Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation Dx2. Their gender is determined by the player at the beginning of the game.
The Protagonist is not given a default name in the game. The player's chosen display name is used as the Protagonist's code name in several in-game menus.
The protagonist is a resident of Akihabara, Tokyo. They downloaded a mysterious "mobile game" after seeing it advertised online, with the hopes that it could bring some action to their dull, isolated existence. After opening the "game", they are confronted by Einherjar, who claims to have been waiting for someone like them to download the game. He refers to the protagonist as "the chosen one", and introduces them to the world of demons and devil downloading. Einherjar then recruits the protagonist into the Tokyo Branch of the "Liberators", and directs them to the nearest Liberator hideout. There, the protagonist is introduced to the other members of the Tokyo branch, and nicknamed "Newbie" by Taro Fuse. This nickname later becomes their official code name.
Gameplay
Newbie does not have a set name nor gender. Instead, both of these characteristics are decided upon by the player at the beginning of the game, and can be changed at any time. Newbie cannot be given a surname, and their forename is limited to eight characters. The two gender options for Newbie - male and female - are for cosmetic purposes only, and do not affect the story.
Just an ordinary youth who downloaded a certain smartphone app featured on Megakin's channel, only to be drawn into the world of Dx2 and the Liberators' fight against the Acolytes.
Skillset: Brings out a demon's potential and trains them well. Can also buff Support Demons.
